Japanese people typically welcome the New Year in tradional fashion. We clean our houses and offices before the new year begins, and have traditional new year decorations made from pine, bamboo and plum trees at the entrance of homes and shops. On the new year eve, families will get together and welcome the new year by eating soba noodles which symbolize longevity.
